At the June 19, 2018, Town Council Meeting, Councilman James Townsend read a proclamation declaring the month of July 2018 Smart Irrigation Month. Smart Irrigation Month is an Irrigation Association initiative, first launched in 2005, to draw attention to the importance of using water efficiently. July is traditionally the month of peak demand for watering lawns, gardens and landscapes in Colorado, and across the nation.
At the May 15, 2018, Town Council Meeting, Councilman Jess Loban read a proclamation declaring May 15 National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and May 13-19 Police Week, which was received by Castle Rock Police Chief Jack Cauley. Councilman Loban also read a proclamation declaring May 20-26 National Public Works Week, received by Castle Rock Public Works Director Bob Goebel.
The Town recognizes and rewards outstanding design and construction through the Design Award Program. The Design Award Team members presented the winning projects to Council and Mayor Green presented each winner of the 6 categories with a plaque, which includes a signed proclamation by the Mayor and a photo of the project.
At the Town Council meeting on May 1, 2018, Mayor Green read 2 proclamations honoring Commander John Anderson and Commander Douglas W. Ernst as they have announced their retirements. Commander Anderson has served the Town of Castle Rock for over 40 years and Commander Ernst has served the Town for over 34 years. Councilman Bower also read a proclamation declaring May 2018 Historic Preservation Month. Mayor Green acknowledged several middle school students for participating in the Mayor's Conservation Challenge, and presented certificates to the winners of the art contest.
At the Town Council meeting on April 17, 2018, Girl Scout Troop 559 lead the pledge of allegiance at the opening of the meeting. The Castle Rock Water Department was awarded the Gold Tier in the Pursuing Excellence Program, for the third year in a row, by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to recognize systems that go above and beyond regulatory compliance. The award was presented to and accepted by Mayor Green, who thanked staff for their hard work and effort.
At the Town Council meeting on April 3, 2018, Mayor Green read two proclamations. The first proclamation sponsored by Castle Rock Water proclaimed April 2018 as Water Conservation month and the Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, to increase awareness and encourage further action for water conservation. The second proclamation was sponsored by the Castle Rock Parks and Recreation department, and proclaims April 20, 2018 as Arbor Day. Students from both Douglas County High School and Castle View High School attended to raise awareness of the "Pause for a Cause", a student campaign and effort to unite students and the community around a common goal which benefits the community and the environment.
The Castle Rock Fire Department Pipes and Drums performed at the opening of the Town Council meeting on February 6, 2018. The Town Council opened the meeting by asking attendees to observe a moment of silence in honor of fallen officers Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Zackari Parrish, Adams County Sheriff's Deputy Heath Gumm and El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Micah Flick. The procession included a traditional march into Town Council Chambers, while the band played the marching tune “Mari’s Wedding” followed by “Amazing Grace”.
