American Hiking Society's National Trails Day

Discover Rueter-Hess Reservior

The American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is a nationally recognized trail awareness program that occurs annually on the first Saturday in June. The program is intended to inspire the public to discover, learn about and celebrate trails.

Take part in one-day hiking and paddling recreational opportunities at Rueter-Hess Reservoir. The reservoir has not yet opened to the public, so this special event is a great opportunity to explore this scenic reservoir.

Reservoir information

The primary purpose of Rueter-Hess Reservoir is to store and provide safe, clean drinking water, but there will be unique improvements to the site in the future to offer new recreational opportunities. The Town will be working along with the City of Lone Tree, City of Castle Pines, Town of Parker, Parker Water and Sanitation District and Douglas County, as part of the Rueter-Hess Recreation Authority, to determine additional outdoor activities for the reservoir.
