Spring snow, colder temps lead Castle Rock Fire and Rescue to lift fire restrictions

CRFD Fire No Restrictions

It’s snowing in May, but it’s moisture we need. Wet spring snow and cooler temperatures this week have reduced the risk of fires in our area. As a result, fire restrictions have been lifted.

Acting on authority granted by Town Council, Town Manager David L. Corliss and Fire and Rescue Chief Art Morales Friday rescinded all fire restrictions.

Activities that are allowed include:
•Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, coal or wood-burning stove, any type of charcoal fueled broiler or open fire of any type in undeveloped areas
•Smoking in open space areas and undeveloped areas
•Using explosive material with appropriate permits
•Welding, or operating acetylene or other similar torch with open flame in wildland areas
•Fires in constructed, permanent fire pits or fire grates within developed recreation sites, or charcoal barbecues, fire pits, smokers, and chimineas operated on private property away from combustible materials
•Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty

Fire restrictions are implemented to maintain public health and safety. CRFD will continue to monitor fuel models and will reinstate restrictions if necessary.
